maybe the old ones could somehow posess richard. then they would make him kill himself. because they probably know how important he is to the five. that might make them emotionaly weak. good time to attack then

Oh, yeah! Cos that would really screw up Matt, since he think's of Richard as an older brother.  And because Matt is the leader of the Five, if he went down, the rest of them might fall as well.

i just thought of that right out of the blue. and instead of richard killijng himself, matt would have to kill him. that would be worse for matt and the others but a better story line

If Richard went against the Five..........

1) Matt would be devastated
2) Richard would end up dead
3) One of the Five would probably kill him
4) The group of Five would  be even more in jeopardy of breaking up

Not that Richard would go against them of his own free will, but you never know............

It's not likely, but I agree that it is possible. I also agree that Matt would have to kill him, could he though? I'm not sure if he could bring himself to do it.

I don't think that Matt would ever be able to kill Richard.

In one of the books I do believe Matt actually said something about seeing Richard as an older brother.  I have an older brother and I could never bring myself to kill him.

That would be insanely hard to chose  sad , but if I had to maybe. Of course I would be totally broken up  after it happened, which would render me totally  useless.  Sadly I'm not very selfish, so the world, and my friends would come  first.

I think that the Old Ones could kidnap- well, adultnap Richard  cheesy and then they could somehow inflict a dream on the 5 that Matt kills Richard. Everyone except Matt has that dream, but Matt gets a phone call about Richard's capture, so Matt is trying to prove his innocence and is broken up about Richard. He needs the 5 to help him get Richard back, but they're all at Matt's throat. Since Matt is the leader, this further breaks up the group.
Also, Scott gets possessed and somehow gets into Jamie's mind to make him think Matt is bad when he tries to read Matt's mind.
