...or are they just crazy suicidal pshychopaths?
Because when the old ones rule the world (or not) the villains are gonna be either dead or like slaves and this has to be obvious to them so that's where my question appears

But yeah i may feel sorry for them if that is the case because maybe (I said MAYBE) have a good reason for hating the world (No I didn't say have a reason to want it destroyed)

they believe thay will be rewarded by the old ones, allowing their wealth and power to grow to phenomenol heights. they do not feel that the old ones will be nice to them, they are all cruel, sadistic individuals, who probably canot understand the term "nice". but they do believe they will be rewarded....
and i think they don't hate the world as such, just their place in it. after all , they are all in the lowest of the low...no one cares about them, they have no light in their lives..all they know is evil.

i agree with zack they r the lowest of the low and the will probably become the dudes who rule over the slaves of the Old Ones so it seems that in the end they do get rewarded in a way(if u call that a reward)

To them, ruling over people (even slaves) is a good enough reward. As Salamanda said in Evil Star' Nothing is ever enough'. Basically they want it all and more even if it means workinking for the Old Ones.

Plus, i'm pretty sure they've been brainwashed. With the power that the old Ones have over humanity, this would not surprise me one bit

But whats so bad about being evil? Our evil is rather agreeable. We are actually rather pleasantly evil.

i'm inclined to believe rainbowstar. these villians are all rational. they're methods make total sense from they're perspective. and they are all rich and intelligent people. they where most lkely lured by something maybe money and once they acheived it the trap was sprung. they are doomed to a life of servitude ot the old ones now. in a way i pity them. they are disgusting human beings but im willing to bet that they used to be decent people. maybe not thebest of people but not the worst either. they are like anikin skywalker of star wars. they originally probably did it for good reasons. but then the dark side or in this case the old ones got them and the didn't have the strength of character nessercary to escape them.
Hate them if you want to but i just pity them

in nightrise it says
"In the front line were the most wretched of all, the human slaves who had put their trust in the Old Ones and stayed with them to the bitter end. This was their reward. They had all been chained together, either naked or covered with a last few rags, their names branded into their flesh ais if they were cattle. They had been given wooden clubs and axes with which to defend themselves."then there is a gross bit and then here are the people we are talking about "behind them were more humans: surely the ruling classes. These were the people who Scar had referred to as overlords and advisors. they had swards and shields and -some of them at least- odd pices of armour. They were pale and sickly, for although they had been happy enough in their positions of power, they had no stomach for the fight. Even from a distance the fear and cowardice could be seen in their faces".
-nightrise page 287
the frount line are the slave and then are the "villans we are talking about".
