they are used alot like a quater staf.. except they have a deadly blade. they require more in the way of brute strength than any kind of finesse

Matt should have a sword (a really big one), he is English, big swords are what they used on land, i personally think he should have a cannon, thats what the british were best with, but thats a 3 person weapon, so he cant hae one

Scar, i think she should have the spear, it suits her personality and her style better,

Pedro, Bolas, they are so cool, and the incas use them and he is incan, they can also be used like a sling, and for close combat, which would suit him rather well

Jamie, Mace, its just so him

Scott, either a naval cutlass or a sailors knife, becuase they are very versatile, and and can be used for almost anything, probably a sailors knife because in Nightrise it describes him as looking like a street fighter, and knives are much better suited to that sort of fighting.

okay first of all the tradtional english weapon is the AXE. big swords are GERMAN.
Bolas are good. Spears aren't really scars thing. spears require a larger person. mace is to brutal. knife is well...its a knife its not long eoungh unless its a set of throwing knives

Engish warriors used swords, not massive ones like the germans i admit but they still used swords, long swords, which were rather big, not huge but still large, however your point is well taken, and with further thought, a long sword and a sheild, axe just isnt matts style, Axemen need to be huge

Spears dont require a larger person, it depends on the length of the spear, and scar is according to the book, an extensive stick sport player, so i think a stave/spear of some kind, and who would use a staff when there is a perfectly good spear lying around?

the mace, you are probably right, i just like maces

and a sailors knife is a reasonably big knife, and while it isnt the right kind of weapon for a pitched battle, it would be a very good weapon for all the little fights along the way, also when fighting with a knife its not a sword fight, its more like a wrestling match, and a skilled knifemen will make it that even if the other person has a sword, which ultimately means that the swordsman dies.  a good weapon if used properly
