SPOILERS BELOW - READ AT YOUR OWN RISK

Okay, so in Snakehead, Alex Rider comments the massive tsunami in reference with the 2004 tsunami. However, how could Alex Rider know that when the series is based in the year 2000? huh If you think about it, Chamber of Secret is the book he gets in Point Blanc (UK)/Point Blank (US) that eventually stuns that girl, and it is "a book everyone wants" quote Smithers. It also has a stunning dart in it. In 1999, three Harry Potter books had been released, meaning it was rather old. Then again, what does that matter? But what I am getting at is that Anthony obviously either has major issues with timeline (no offense meant so please don't flame me) or he had no set timeline in mind. If anyone can discredit me, please feel free!  cheesy

Responses are welcome, and if there is already another topic, I will obviously lock this one or someone else to do it for me if I don't respond (but I should do grin ). Thanks, and please respond back. Also, should this go in General Comments or is it alright here?

Dude there is no set time for the series.  Thought you would have figured that out since the series has been going on for years and alex is still 14.  Just putting it out there.

I am no just some weird crazy Alex penifer fan.  Alex does rule though.  There needs to be more violence in the books. i only picked the name Sabina to show that even girls like Alex RIDER

I don't mean that.  embarassed I know that the series had been going for ages and that each book is only X amount of weeks, but I was just wondering if anyone else noticed. That's all. I was just a little confused...

Thanks for reply, anyhow.

ahh,i see what you mean. It's a picky point, but you have to admit it'd be annoying if the series kept sticking to nineties forever..i suppose the books move on,but Alex doesnt. But yeah,if you think about it for a while,it is quite messed up. But there's no way to help it *shrugs* good thought tho.

Yeah... *sigh* Oh well. Should I lock this now? I never heard of a forum where you can lock your own topics! Better than the Pendragon Adventure site. Off-topic: Does anyone read Pendragon by D.J.MacHale? Sorry, just wondering...

I'm afraid I don't quite understand Mike..read the forum rules if you are uncertain.

On the topic of your timeline thought, I think its fascianting what one can work ot from some words and sentances in several books.

The only way for all the technology that Alex encounters to be available to him is if the books are set in 2001 (Gameboy Colour being replaced by Gameboy Advance, Ipod being released).

The Mission Files claim that John Rider died in 1988, which, assuming he was one at the time, would also put the books in 2001, when the first one was written.

However, it always seems more likely to me that quite simply AH writes the book in the present, with technology as it is now, and though the world moves on, it is still the same time for Alex Rider and for him it has always been like this. It is also an alternative -if similar- universe to ours- as can be told by the fact that they have Damien Cray as an Elton John- Paul McCartney-esque figure.
