ooh you bring up an excellent point!  I was thinking about things while reading your message and I thought that maybe he could be put in jail for shooting someone since we know he shoots someone and that's how we will know it's over, but then when you said what if he finally snaps and goes crazy it hit me that that's what has to happen.   Everything already, plus someone he loves dying, plus him shooting someone to get revenge, makes him go crazy and they lock him away in a mental institute.  And then maybe jack actually survives (meaning sabina died) and still comes to visit him.  That would at least provide some tiny bit of happiness.

My mind was exploding while I was furiously typing this.  It'd be an ending that's sad that I could actually deal with for some reason.

It's just that is the only thing I can really think of that would ensure the end of the books and not be a happy ending besides Alex dieing which we know won't happen. If you think about it, after al Alex has gone through it would make sense for him to snap. He's seen more in the year between the ages of fourteen and fifteen than most people see in their lifetime. He's seen people die, he's even killed people by accident. He's been on the brink of death many, many times. If Jack died and he killed someone purposefully with his own hands I don't think he would be able to keep it together. And if Jack died as a result of one of his actions he'd never be able to forgive himself and I'm sure he would go over the edge. The original title, Endurance Point, just confirms that suspicion further.

I was actually on the brink of crying while I wrote this and reread my previous post. It's weird. And there's something else. I think I'd rather have Alex die than go crazy.

yeah it would almost be worse for him to go crazy.  But at the same time that'd make the series as a whole a much more impacting and epic story.  However it ends though, I think the fact that he finally uses a gun will be a big part of it because it seems like that's one of the things the whole story line has been leading up to.

Wow, maybe I'm just on another wave length than some people but do some of you actually think it'd be a good ending for him to go insane? I mean sure, it is realistic but I think that'd be very very, for lack of a better word, dumb. I'd rather the whole " It was really Alex's Clone the whole time!" ending than that, and that's saying something.

Well actually Horowitz says that Alex won't die but it will be worse. If it was the clone all along then that would mean Alex was dead. I don't think Alex going crazy is dumb. It would actually fit quite well. Horowitz said the ending was sad and shocking. Alex going off the deep end would be exactly that. It's something that I don't think usually is done at the end of books.

Alex will definitely use a gun in this book. I think that killing people purposefully will be part of the reason Alex goes bonkers. I'm sort of sad it won't have a happy ending, but I kind of like it too for some reason.

Yeah I don't think Alex going insane would be dumb, I think it'd be very realistic and actually a brilliant move for the ending of the story. It's such a tragic but amazing twist for the plot.  It's kind of like the James Bond Movie Casino Royale (I hope you've seen this so you'll get what I'm saying) where he is apparently happy and everything seems fine and then he discovers Vesper(his girl) is stealing his money and giving it to some bad guys.  But she is being forced to do it and they're still in love and he could save her but she's so ashamed of what she did she lets herself drown.  It's sad, but it's a good ending that had to happen.

I hope this made sense.  When I tell stories I'm really bad at describing them because I try to throw in too much background info.

YOu have a point, but it will be a sad ending even if Alex doesn't snap. Horowitz says that he just can't see a happy ending for Alex and neither can I. HIm going crazy seems like the most likely thing to happen. Horowitz says that Alex's fate is worse than death. I'd rather see Alex die than see him go crazy. And it would be realistic. It would make perfect sense.

I'm not saying that I want him to crack, but that's probably what will happen.

Really? You'd rather him go insane? I know that dying is ordinary, but insanity is just... wrong. I would really be sad if he goes insane even though I think he will. So I'd rather see him die.

Alex? Going nuts? It sounds rather weird. I mean, he's quick-witted and skilled. I'd rather have Alex dead rather than insane. That way, i've got another favorite character who's in the grave. But at least if Alex dies, he can finally meet his parents in heaven.

Though something tells me he couldn't possibly die... I just hope he doesn't go crazy. That's all

I would agree with him dying if it weren't for this interview. Horowitz said that Alex wouldn't die. It would be worse. So then I got onto thinking, "What could be worse?" At first I thought that he had to live with the guilt of the death of a friend, but that isn't really worse than him dying. Then I got the brainwave. Alex goes crazy. It's the only thing I can think of that could be worse than him dying. Plus, if it was just guilt, there could still be more books. Horowitz said that we would know that this was the last book. The only thing I can think of besides death is insanity.

Ooh!  What if he is paralyzed.  That could be another option where no more books could be possible.  And if it was full body paralysis then it'd be worse than death.

Anthony Horowitz says Scorpia Rising happens in Cairo, didn't he? 

And Cairo is in Egypt...could possibly be massive dehydration...

Ooh, maybe Alex messed up in a really important mission and got sacked by MI6, then Jack's VISA is taken back and she'll be on her way home to America. Then maybe halfway, Scorpia blows up the plane and KABOOM! Jack's dead  Then Alex will regret it for the rest of his life.

Then on the other hand, Alex always wanted to go back to school. Remember Anthony Horowitz said there would be terrorists invading schools? It could possibly be that after the mission, Alex returned to London to find his school blown up to bits!

Okay....I have no idea, they were just guesses. I guess I'll be waiting for the book then

BUt all of those would leave an opening for later books. Except for him being paralyzed. That's something I didn't think about.
