Alex can die. That would explain why AH refuses to write more books (except Yassen). I don't hope he will though. it would be too sad.

He won't die. It was stated in a interview that a link was posted for a couple pages back. What will happen to Alex is much worse and our thoughts so far are amnesia, paralysis, and insanity. I'm going with insanity, but I'd rather have him die than any of those.

Speaking of Alex dying, I'm actually writing a fanfic where Alex dies!  evil
