I don't belive in god

zak: No offence to the Queen, but she does next to nothing for Australia. every 5 years (i think it is 5) she gets a call from the PM recomending a certain person to become GG. she signs a paper and thats it. She CAN (if she wants to) ring up the GG and go "I hate Kevin, the terms he uses when he speaks is incredebly annoying, could you fire him" or she could go "hey, if this stupid carbon emisions trading scheme gets through the senate, could you not sign it" but unfrortunately, she does not...

I don't mean to be mean to the Queen, i respect her greatly and i mean no offence to her. I think its amazing she even finds time to do what she does for Australia. She is the Head of State of 10 countries, which includes England - which she cares greatly for, and therefor, her priority should be England rather than australia. And Australia should become a republic and get a head of state who is an Aussie and a person that does not have 9 other countries to worry about. A person who can do things, as the Head of state, for Australia, like the US President does for the US.

Gypo: incorrect, a republic is a country which has a head of state which the people of the nation have a say in (who it is, that is). This person can be called a President, they could be called 'the Willy Wonka' or 'that guy with the ballpoint pen'. What ever.

and for thoes of you international guys who do not know, in '99 90% of Australia showed support to become a republic. but then why did only 45% vote 'yes' to becoming a republic? Because the people of Australia wanted to Choose who the HOS was, they did not want the HOS to be elected by a joint sitting of parliment and they did not want to copy everyone else and call there HOS a President! There should be another referendum with modifications...

Lol, okay, one second you're saying "The Queen does nothing for Australia but sign a paper every 5 years," the next second, you're saying, "Australia should ditch the Queen so she doesn't have to worry/care/bother about it any more and can focus on England."

Uh....

Paradox much?

Well, im pretty sure the Queen does less for Canada than Australia ... if she even does anything for England (?) i'm not very up-to-date on Royal politics xD

Also, i'm locking this thread as it has now reached fifty pages, and making a new one grin You may continue your heated (?) discussion there xD
