while i was reading snakehead, i noticed something that didn't really match up with what happened in Scorpia. alex said that he had been able to go on a trip with his class to Venice, which i believe to be a reference from Scorpia. i remember someone from the uk saying that alex had actually been on a school trip and not with his friend Tom, like in the american version. even though it wouldn't have made any difference while reading, i was just thinking about that.....

any other differences people have noticed?

As far as I know, Alex did go on a school trip with his class. It was his tutor Mr. Grey who invited him, if I can remeber the name correctly. But I did notice something different, I just can't put my finger on it right now sorry.

I'm not sure about this (need to re-read), but didn't Alex go to Venice as a school trip, then when it was finished he felt he needed more time to investigate Scorpia, so he organised something with Tom to stay longer?

As far as I remember. He never finished his school trip. He disappeared into Lady Rothman's Palace the night before the trip ended. As you see, the next day when Alex had to leave to go home. The teacher couldn't find him and Tom was blaming himself for Alex's disparearance the night before. But he didn't tell the teacher what had happned. He phoned the hotel the next morning and told the teacher he was already on his way home and when Tom went on the train to Naples Alex appeared. I hope I got it right

In the version I read (which is the American version) Tom invites Alex to visit his brother in Naples, and they stop in Venice along the way. I remember it specifically.

So apparently the American version is different.

In the australian version (which i presume is the same as the english) he goes on a school trip to Venice invited by the teacher. His friend Tom is on that trip and after helping Alex break into mrs Rothman's house, he goes back with Tom to his brother's place instead of going back to England. So there is a school trip as well as going to Naples.

So it seems that this discussion has come to a conclusion:

The American (and possibly others) version of Scorpia is different from the English/Australian/Etc. version.

Curious, isn't it?

The American version makes plenty of sense too. Tons of people go on vacations with friends.

They both make sense,
and it seems to me that what happened is that AH remembered the way he wrote it originally, and American editors changed it for Scorpia, and when Snakehead came out, they forgot to catch the change and therefore it's a continuity error over time..
It's really not a big deal if you think about it...
But still, it's a good catch that fans like us will pick up on, but the average reader?? Probably not
