I read the old Darren Shan series about the half-vampire, which I liked, but I haven't read any of his newer books.

I've only read the Half vampire series. All of the books. The ending was not what I expected.

i think darren shan is an awesome writer and whoever hasn't read his books should start with the cirque de freak books about the half vampire. when you finish with those you should move on with the demonanta series wich are also good, but a little confusing.

It depend on what you like. All of his books are horror/fantasy the Saga of Darren Shan  has 12 books and is about vampires. In "The Demonata" series there are currently 4 books published with more on the way. These are gorier than the Saga series so if you don't like blood and gore you might want to read the Saga.

Lord Loss is the first book in the Demonata series, which is about the battle between humans and demons.
